Daraz shot the missile , but nobody has seen it
Alibaba bought a 20% share of Bkash and acquired Daraz and Hungrynaki. It might seem good for the country's economy as foreign investments are coming. Otherwise, our concern could be that they're getting all the data and they'll get all the benefits to grab a larger group of customers. But the real scenario is bigger than this.
Back in 2018 Alibaba bought a 20% share of Bkash and Acquired Daraz in the same year. There was a reason, but getting a larger number of customers wasn't the core reason obviously. When you went for shopping you'll use hard cash and if you're out of cash you'll try to lend from your credit card, but most people do not have access to a credit card because of the requirements. And lend hard cash from a friend isn't convenient most of the time. But when you're shopping online, you're out of the money you just call your friend or parents to lend some money through bkash. It's easier and convenient. Aggressive discounts have also accelerated the penetration. And you know why CNG and Taxi service almost dead? Yes, inconvenience.
When shopping and payment both are getting more convenient than regular shopping, it's just a matter of time to make it habitual. Also, getting out of cash will be a less concerning factor in customer's minds. The goal of Alibaba is to keep you as a customer for at least 100 years! I fear, one day most physical stores and shopping malls will fade away just because of Daraz. It's not the shot from a gun but the missile that has been fired but nobody has seen it.
